Ten Ways Parents Can Be Involved with Their Child's Education
- Contact your child's teacher early and maintain communication throughout the school year.
- Participate in parent/teacher conferences.
- Ask the teacher what your child is learning and how you can support this at home.
- Talk with your child daily about homework, classroom activities, and events.
- Learn about school policies and expectations so you can help your child understand them.
- Make efforts to stay informed of school and classroom events.
- Model behaviors and attitudes you expect from your child.
- Encourage and nurture your child's creativity.
- Be proactive in making the school aware of your support for your child's education.
- Talk with your employer about flex time so you can participate in school activities.
5th Annual Heart and Hope

Registration is now open for the 5th Annual Heart and Hope Statewide Family Conference on Saturday, February 12, 2011, from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm at Southwest Middle School in Orlando.
Heart and Hope is a FREE full-day event that is designed to help bring individuals who are at risk, families who have children with disabilities and the professionals who serve them awareness of their options and rights that are available to them within the school system and beyond. There will be workshops, a "Readers of the Caribbean" literacy workshop, an IEP Clinic (one-on-one assistance with your child's IEP), vendor displays and information, KidCamp (pre-registration required as space is limited), and more!
